Digging Prevention

Puppies will engage in naturally rewarding behaviours, that make them feel good or fulfil a deep genetic need. Digging is something which dogs love to do and without an outlet puppies will often destroy parts of the garden.

To prevent this becoming an issue with your puppy you will need to get proactive.

Firstly, don’t let your puppy have access to the garden unattended. When you do go out together consider having your puppy on a lead.

In addition, provide an alternative outlet for your puppy’s desire to dig. This could be a container with water, a sand pit with buried treasure or a ball pool. By giving your puppy these games to play, you will make it less likely that they will look to dig in unwanted areas. It’s also a great form of enrichment.
